Insurance & Payment Policy

Payment and Pricing

Vernon Nutrition Center is an “out of network” provider for most insurance companies. Although we do not file insurance claims for out of network insurances, we can provide you with the documentation necessary for you to file your claim with your insurance company.

All appointments for those with out of network insurance are considered “fee-for-service.” Appointment fees are due at the time of service. We accept cash, check, or credit card (Visa/MC/AMEX). We accept HSA/FSA cards with a major credit card logo, however you must bring an alternate form of payment the first time you are using HSA/FSA cards in case there is a problem. A receipt can be provided upon your request for all services.

VNC does participate in Medicare, however Medicare will only cover nutrition counseling for those who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (documentation is required from your physician). All other diagnosis are not covered by Medicare and will be the responsibility of the client at the time of service.

VNC does participate in Horizon BCBS, however not all plans cover for nutrition counseling services. Please remember that all insurance plans vary. Clients are responsible for contacting their insurance provider in advance to determine their coverage, limitations, and deductible/copayment responsibilities based on their reason for visit. For those who have coverage but have not yet met their annual deductible, payment is due at the time service is rendered.

Your visit may be tax deductible
The IRS now recognizes treatment for obesity as a medical tax deduction. This ruling allows taxpayers who pay for services related to their disease or weight condition to deduct those expenses. To learn more about this deduction, visit the American Dietetic Association website.

Cancellation Policy

When you schedule an appointment at VNC, we devote that entire appointment time to only you. For this reason, we require 24 hour notice for all cancellations. Failure to provide this notice will result in you being responsible for the full cost of the service. For last minute cancellations of an appointment that was purchased as part of a package, the appointment will be forfeited. Please note, we understand emergencies and unexpected events can occur. That is why we allow the option of an appointment being changed to a phone-based session versus an in-office session without penalty at anytime before the start time of the appointment.

Please make sure to arrive for all appointments promptly at or a few minutes before your appointment time. Late arrivals will be seen at the discretion of your dietitian, however your appointment will not be extended past your originally scheduled time slot.
